Iranian state media has reported that explosions had been heard at the central Iranian airport of Isfahan, despite differing accounts from Iranian and US sources regarding the cause of the explosions.
“An object suspected to be a drone” has prompted the country’s air defense system to activate in the province of Isfahan, according to sources who spoke with the FARS news agency. According to the sources, “three explosions have been heard near an army base in north-west Isfahan.
” Around 1:30 a.m. AEDT (12:30 a.m. GMT), three drones were spotted flying above Isfahan. “These drones in the sky were destroyed by the air defense system,” Iranian state TV continued. According to state TV, Siavosh Mihandoust, a senior commander of the Iranian army, stated that the overnight attack did not result in any damage. It coincides with the announcement by an American official to US channel ABC that Israel fired missiles.
An Iranian official refuted this claim, telling Reuters that Iran was firing its air defense batteries when the blasts were reported in Isfahan. The Iranian source went on to say that Iran was not the target of any missile attack.
