Biden warns Israel not to repeat mistakes of US response after 9/11

President Biden issued a warning to Israel on Wednesday, not to repeat the mistakes the US committed in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, as Israeli soldiers readied themselves for a ground invasion in retaliation for Hamas’ assaults.

After visiting Israel, Biden gave a speech in Tel Aviv to emphasize his everlasting support for the Jewish state in the wake of the Hamas bombings, which claimed over 1,000 Israeli lives and raised fears of a wider battle in the region.

“This incident has been compared to Israel’s 9/11 since it occurred. However, it was like fifteen 9/11s for a country the size of Israel, according to Biden. “Those tragedies have undoubtedly touched on some sort of primordial feeling in Israel, just as they did in the United States, even though the scale may be different. Sickness, hurt, fury. An all-encompassing fury.

Biden went on, “You can’t look at what has happened here and not scream out for justice.” “We must seek justice. However, I would advise you not to let your anger control you while you are feeling it. In the US, we were furious following 9/11. Even though we pursued and received justice, we weren’t perfect.

Biden acknowledged that the Palestinian people are suffering and that the great majority of them are not represented by Hamas, but he also noted that decisions in times of war are never straightforward and must be evaluated against possible consequences.

The United States started fighting in Afghanistan to find the people who carried out the attacks on September 11, 2001, and a few months later, it started a war in Iraq. The two wars, which lasted 20 years, cost the US thousands of soldiers. While both conflicts were being fought, Biden served as vice president. His administration also managed the disorderly withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan in 2021.

The president made these remarks while a number of Palestinians were martyred in Israel’s retaliatory assault on Gaza, which is under Hamas control. Israel is getting ready to launch an operation, possibly even a ground invasion, against Hamas.

Concerning the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where residents have battled to obtain food, water, and medicine, international leaders have also issued a warning.

Following a hospital explosion in Gaza on Tuesday that claimed hundreds of lives, including patients who were seeking care and safety amidst Israel’s intense aerial bombardment over the previous week, protests have erupted across the Middle East.

Although Israel has been held accountable for the explosion by Hamas and several Arab countries, Biden and the White House have stated that the intelligence at hand suggests Israel was not the cause of the detonation.
