A delegation from Afghanistan, led by Mawlawi Ataullah Omari, Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, and a delegation from Uzbekistan, led by Shavkat Hamroyev, Minister of Water, convened to address issues related to the Amu River’s coastline in Balkh Province.
The discussions focused on the degradation of the Amu River, reduced water levels, the impacts of climate change, and measures to reinforce coastal fortifications to prevent further damage.
This meeting is timely, as rising water levels of the Amu River, exacerbated by climate change, are causing extensive damage to agricultural land and residential areas in both countries.
