Minister of Interior Affairs-IEA met with the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation and his accompanying delegation

Minister of Interior Affairs-IEA, H.E. Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani, met with the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation and his accompanying delegation.

In this meeting, participants included Mr. Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation; Mr. Alexei Overchuk, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of Russia; Mr. Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s Special Representative for Afghanistan; Mr. Dmitry Zhirnov, Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan; along with several other officials.

During the discussions, both sides engaged in a comprehensive dialogue on political, security, and economic matters. Mr. Shoigu assured that the Russian government is in the final stages of removing the (Taliban movement) the name used by them previously for the Islamic Emirate, from the list of banned groups. He expressed optimism that this process would soon conclude, facilitating enhanced relations between the two countries across multiple sectors.

Mr. Shoigu emphasized that Afghanistan’s stability is crucial to the broader region, noting, “A stable Afghanistan represents a valuable opportunity for regional prosperity and the expansion of economic cooperation.”

H.E. Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani warmly welcomed the Russian delegation, hailing the visit of such a distinguished delegation as a significant and promising step. He voiced his optimism that this occasion would deepen and enhance the bilateral relations between the two nations across diverse fields.

In his remarks, H.E. Haqqani emphasized that the Afghan people now stand as masters of their own political destiny, enjoying true independence and sovereignty in their decision-making. He further articulated a vision that extends beyond a peaceful Afghanistan, aspiring for stability and prosperity to flourish across the entire region.

H.E. Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani remarked, “With the end of foreign occupation in Afghanistan, the war has ceased, and the factors causing instability have been eliminated. The region should take full advantage of this opportunity.”
