According to the Belgian monarchy, a Palestinian ambassador to Belgium on Tuesday gave the king her credentials for the first time in order to formally take up her position.
According to the announcement, Amal Jadou Shakaa gave King Philippe her letter of credence.
It further stated, “Her role in our nation officially began with this presentation.”
“Today, I presented my credentials to the King of the Belgians as Ambassador of Palestine, becoming the first Palestinian ambassador to do so,” Amal Jadou Shakaa posted on X. I expressed President Abbas’ appreciation for Belgium’s steadfast backing of Palestine.
For more than a year, in the face of Israeli attacks on civilians, the Belgian government has publicly expressed solidarity for Gaza and Palestine.
