The Kandahar Media Office says that the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) are jointly launching a poppy alternative cultivation project in Kandahar and Helmand provinces by 2025.
The office’s statement said that Kandahar Governor Mullah Mohammad Shirin Akhund has assured full cooperation in the implementation of the project.
According to the office; the project includes distributing wheat, corn, and onion seeds, distributing animal feed, building greenhouses, supporting gardeners and building new gardens, training farmers and gardeners, marketing agricultural products, providing employment to people, and supporting small businesses.
