US President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he is likely to visit SaudiArabia in the coming weeks to finalize an agreement for Riyadh to invest over $1 trillion in the US economy, including major purchases of American military equipment.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump noted that his first overseas trip as president in 2017 was to Riyadh, where Saudi Arabia committed to $350 billion in investments. “This time, they’ve gotten richer, we’ve all gotten older,” he remarked.
At Trump’s request, Saudi Arabia has agreed to invest $1 trillion over four years, directing funds into American companies and defense purchases. “They’ve agreed to do that, so I’m going to be going there,” he said, highlighting his strong relationship with Saudi leaders.
The kingdom is also playing a growing role in US foreign policy, with Trump’s Middle East special envoy, Steve Witkoff, confirming that Saudi Arabia will host a US-Ukraine meeting next week to discuss a potential ceasefire in the Ukraine war.
