The President of IOM, WFP and the UNICEF visited a camp established by ANDMA in Torkham for forcibly displaced migrants

Saturday afternoon, Ms. Mia Park, President of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Ms. Mutinta, President of the World Food Programme (WFP), Mr. Tajuddin, President of UNICEF, along with representatives from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), accompanied by their respective delegations, visited the refugee camp established by Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) in Torkham for forcibly displaced migrants.

The visit took place in the presence of the NDMA’s Acting Head, Haji Mullah Nooruddin Turabi.

During the visit, Alhaj Turabi Sahb provided detailed information about various aspects of the camp and clarified that the construction of the camp is not yet fully completed. However, efforts are ongoing to establish a standard refugee camp to provide enhanced facilities for the migrants.

He further stated that over 400 standard tents have been set up in the camp, with all necessary facilities provided. Additionally, to ensure the security of the refugees, the entire camp has been surrounded by barbed wire.

Referring to the increasing number of refugees, the Acting Head of ANDMA noted that arrangements have been made to enable humanitarian organizations to deliver their aid to the refugees swiftly and transparently.

In response, the President of the International Organization for Migration expressed gratitude to Alhaj Turabi Sahb for providing comprehensive information.

She stated, “I am pleased that we have met here at the refugee camp this time.” She added that they are assessing the situation of the refugees to provide them with further assistance.
