Minister of Public Health Undertakes Strategic Assessment Visit to Torkham Crossing

In a bid to evaluate the quality and reach of healthcare services being delivered to repatriated citizens at the Torkham border, the Minister of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, H.E. Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, conducted a high-level field visit accompanied by a senior delegation.

The ministerial entourage included Sheikh Mohammad Tahir Haleem, Chief of Staff of the Ministry; Mawlawi Aminullah Sharif, Director of Nangarhar Public Health; along with several central directors and seasoned health professionals. Their presence underlined the ministry’s whole-of-government approach to tackling public health priorities at border entry points.

During the visit, the Minister undertook a comprehensive on-site inspection of various healthcare units operational at Torkham.

He took stock of the situation by interacting directly with patients returning from abroad, assessing medical needs, and evaluating the performance of frontline medical staff. In his address, Minister Jalali commended the tireless efforts of healthcare workers stationed at the crossing and issued actionable recommendations aimed at enhancing service delivery.

He emphasized the need to scale up healthcare infrastructure, ensure the availability of essential medical supplies, and maintain a consistent flow of quality pharmaceuticals.

The Minister also reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to leaving no stone unturned in improving healthcare services for returning citizens. He pledged that the Public Health Ministry would sustain momentum in expanding health interventions at the Torkham reception area, ensuring that the needs of returnees are met with dignity and efficiency.
