Iran’s UN ambassador Amir Saeed Iravani has urged the UN secretary-general and the Security Council to condemn what he called “unlawful” and “reckless” threats by U.S. President Donald Trump amid protests in Iran.
In a letter sent Friday, Iravani responded to Trump’s statement that the United States was “locked and loaded and ready to go” if more protesters were killed during demonstrations over rising living costs.
Iravani said the remarks violated international law and the UN Charter, warning they could escalate tensions.
He stressed that Iran reserves the right to defend its sovereignty in a decisive and proportionate manner.
