In a historic confession during a session of the country’s assembly, the Pakistani Defense Minister expressed regret for his country’s misdeeds in the region and called on Pakistan’s rulers to acknowledge the truth.
He added that, “If we do not confess our historical mistakes, we will not be forgiven. Let us admit our errors so that Allah may forgive us.”
Khawaja Asif stated that Pakistan had interfered in Afghanistan for decades as a mercenary force serving Western interests, particularly because Pervez Musharraf sought the support of the United States.
According to him, Pakistan has been used as a paper towel by the West, which is now abandoning the country, and yet Pakistan has not fully realized or learned from its mistakes.
Asif also noted that the current situation is very different from 30–40 years ago, when Pakistan was a stronger and more respected nation.
