UNAMA Mandate Extended for One More Year

The United Nations Security Council has adopted a resolution extending the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) for an additional year.

The resolution, proposed by China, was approved on Monday with unanimous support from all 15 members of the Security Council.

Fu Cong, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has urged relevant countries to lift unilateral sanctions against Afghanistan.

Addressing a recent UN Security Council meeting, he called for the release of frozen assets belonging to Afghanistan’s central bank.

China’s representative further stressed the importance of expanding engagement and cooperation between the Islamic Emirate and the international community.
