30 Standards Approved in Various Sectors by the High Council for Standards

The third regular meeting of the High Council for Standards was held under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund.

The meeting took place today, April 13, 2025, at the Marmarin Palace. It was attended by the Director General of the Afghanistan National Standards Authority (ANSA), Mullah Faizullah Tamim, along with the permanent members of the council.

The Deputy PM for Economic Affairs stated that the council’s meetings focus on the quality of Afghanistan’s products, and to ensure and improve this quality, standard benchmarks are approved.

These standards give international credibility to domestic products and play an important role in increasing exports.

Following that, the Director General of ANSA, Mullah Faizullah Tamim, spoke about the importance of standards. He mentioned that implementing standard benchmarks helps safeguard the health of humans and animals and also plays a significant role in establishing a safe environment.

He added that for this purpose, ANSA introduces standard benchmarks in various sectors to manufacturing factories, companies, and relevant institutions.

During the presentation of their annual report, ANSA officials stated that to promote standardized production, they had introduced hundreds of standards across various sectors to relevant factories, companies, and institutions.

Furthermore, they had conducted monitoring of 61 manufacturing factories and companies. Among these, the products of some were satisfactory, while most were found non-compliant with the standards, for which necessary recommendations were issued by the Authority.

The High Council for Standards emphasized the full implementation of the approved standards in the areas of pharmaceuticals, food items, construction materials, and other sectors. It decided that in case of non-compliance or violations, ANSA shall refer the case to the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Office to take appropriate action regarding the operations of the concerned factory or company.

It was also decided that, to ensure continuous monitoring of manufacturing entities and the full implementation of approved standards, a practical implementation plan should be developed and executed under the leadership of ANSA in coordination with relevant ministries and institutions.

In the third regular meeting of the High Council for Standards, 30 standards were presented for approval in the fields of food and agricultural products, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, construction materials, electronics and telecommunications, textiles and leather, environmental protection, plastics, medical devices, mining, and animal slaughtering.

After comprehensive discussion, the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs approved the standards and firmly instructed ANSA officials to ensure their complete implementation.

The Authority was assigned the responsibility to regularly share implementation reports of these standards with the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs Office.

Deputy PM Mullah Baradar Akhund stated that this will help prevent the entry and production of substandard products in the country, while at the same time ensuring public health and the quality of goods and services.
