In Israel’s most recent attack on the Khan Younis neighborhood in southern Gaza, at least 70 Palestinians have martyred and over 200 have been injured. The scenario has been dubbed “doomsday” by Palestinians who are escaping Israeli tank fire and airstrikes.
Gaza’s Ministry of Health said in a statement on Monday that “70 people have been martyred and more than 200 wounded due to the Israeli occupation’s attacks and massacres in Khan Yunis governorate from the early hours of this morning until now,” adding that the dead included women and children.
The tanks moved more than 2 km (1.2 miles) into Bani Suheila on the eastern outskirts of Khan Younis, according to residents of the heavily populated southern Gaza Strip, causing people to escape under fire. Shortly after Palestinians were told to evacuate the region, which has been declared a “safe zone,” Israel launched its third attack on the southern city, leaving little time for residents to seek shelter.
Medics said that Israeli tank salvoes killed Palestinians in Bani Suheila and other localities east of Khan Younis; the area was reportedly hit by air strikes.
Through a messaging app, a local known only as Abu Khaled told the news agency Reuters, “It’s like doomsday.” “People are running from gunfire. On the roadways, many people are hurt and dead.
The injured are being treated on the floor of the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis due to an overflow of patients. The medical facility’s medics declared the situation to be “out of control.”
