A fire in Gujarat, India, claimed the lives of at least 24 persons, including children.

According to a government official, a fire that started at a family entertainment center in the western Indian state of Gujarat has killed at least 24 people, many of them children.
The local mayor warned the Reuters news agency that more deaths were likely as rescue operations in the Rajkot region continued on Saturday night.

Over 300 individuals were inside the two-story building at the TRP theme park and amusement park when the fire started over the holiday weekend, Rajkot fire officer Ilesh Kher told reporters.

“Its flammable material caused the flames to spread quickly,” he continued.
Television footage displayed heavy clouds of smoke rising from the scene and a large fire consuming the TRP gaming zone. The fire destroyed the entire building.
Additionally, some of the victims were beyond recognition burned, according to a police official at the nearby public hospital.
IV Kher, the district’s chief fire officer, reported that firefighters had nearly contained the fire.
“We have not yet determined the cause of the fire,” he said Reuters.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been tasked with looking into the incident, according to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Television sources also stated that Rajkot police had apprehended two individuals in relation to the incident.
