Maryam Hassanein, a former special assistant to the US Department of Interior who quit this week due to the Biden administration’s backing of Israel’s war on Gaza, claimed the US president is unquestioningly backing Israel.
“I firmly believe that, despite all of the horrors Israel and the Israeli occupation have inflicted in Gaza, what I and the other officials who have resigned have witnessed, month after month,” Hassanein stated to Al Jazeera.
One of 12 Biden administration officials to openly resign over US support for the conflict in Gaza, Hassanein said, “I saw an administration that was really not listening to voices like myself and others who are wanting to see freedom and justice for Palestinians.”
“I believe that by supporting and enabling this genocide in Gaza, the administration has consistently disregarded these voices,” the woman stated.
