Following more than a year of combat in southern Lebanon and northern Israel, a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah went into effect at 4 a.m. local time in Lebanon (02:00 GMT), raising expectations that the agreement will permanently stop Israeli attacks on Lebanese towns and cities.
According to US President Joe Biden, the agreement between Israel and Hezbollah calls for the Israeli troops to leave Lebanon over a period of 60 days, with the military of Lebanon assuming control of southern region to prevent Hezbollah from reestablishing its forces.
