In the Past Year, 4,000 Promotional, Ceremonial, and Formal Competitions Conducted Nationwide

At a press conference held at the Government Media and Information Center, officials of the Directorate General Olympic Committee, Physical Education and Sports, presented their annual performance report.

The officials stated that in the past year, 4,000 promotional, ceremonial, and formal competitions have been organized across the country.

According to the officials, Afghan athletes participated in 98 international and regional competitions, collectively securing 92 medals, including 22 gold, 30 silver, and 40 bronze.

The officials added that winning 5 medals at the Asian Olympic Games, the national futsal team’s qualification for the World Cup, the U-17 national football team’s championship in the CAFA (Central Asian Football Association) tournament, and the national taekwondo team’s championship in the G2 competitions are among the significant achievements over the past year.

Officials emphasized that significant strides were made in fostering the growth and development of sports in the country. This includes organizing the third round of national volleyball competitions, the fifth season of the Buzkashi League, the third seasons of both the football and futsal leagues, and the second season of the Ghorsai League.

According to the officials, Afghan athletes secured second place in the 14th round of the Eurasian Games. Athletes from 12 Asian countries participated in these games, where Afghan athletes achieved significant success by winning 9 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals.

According to the officials, in the past year, 191 competitions were overseen across 35 sports federations, and 450 athletes received guidance and training through educational seminars.

Looking ahead, the entity’s key priorities for the current year include strengthening the nation’s sports infrastructure, facilitating Afghan athletes’ participation in international and regional competitions, organizing national sporting events, signing MoUs with the Ministry of Education and Kabul Municipality, conducting capacity-building programs, and broadcasting competitions through national media outlets.
