India’s contribution to Afghan cricket and the maintenance of bilateral sports ties

Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesperson, Naseem Sadat said in a statement yesterday that the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and India’s Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have agreed to hold the match between Afghanistan and Bangladish at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Stadium in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.

Considering the strong and historical relations, India has played an important role in the development of the Afghanistan cricket team.

Additionally, in 2015, the BCCI prepared a ground for the Afghanistan cricket team in Noida, which became its home ground.

The Afghan team also hosted a T20 tournament against Bangladesh in the Indian city of Dehradun.

Furthermore, India’s Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, praised the performance of Afghan players, especially Rashid Khan, in a monthly radio program.

The inclusion of Afghanistan cricket team players such as Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, with their impressive performances, has enhanced their capabilities, enabling them to secure contracts with foreign cricket leagues.

Last year, Afghanistan’s national cricket team defeated the major teams in One Day International (ODI) World Cup Cricket Games, such as Pakistan, England, and Sri Lanka under the guaidance of the Indian assistant coach Ajay Jadeja.

Indian companies such as Amul, FanCode, and TYKA were partners and sponsors of the Afghanistan national cricket team.

In 2017, India built a cricket field in Kandahar province, which has helped Afghan youth improve their skills.

India consistently supports the Afghan national cricket team and takes pride in their victories, as was evident in the 2023 One Day International (ODI) Cricket World Cup.
