Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden and Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel announced before a parliamentary committee that the country plans to recognize Palestine as an independent state during the UN General Assembly in September.
The foreign minister added that he would propose a bill in parliament enabling Luxembourg to take further steps, including possible sanctions against Israel.
Australia, Canada, Belgium, and the United Kingdom have also previously signaled their intention to recognize Palestine at the UN General Assembly.
