Minister of Public Health Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali described his recent visit to India as the beginning of a new chapter in health-sector cooperation between Afghanistan and India, calling the trip highly productive and achievement-oriented.
He said discussions with Indian health officials focused on investment in the health sector, the import of quality medicines, and cooperation in traditional medicine.
According to the minister, Indian Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Afghanistan’s efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in healthcare.
Mr. Jalali added that key commitments made during the visit include strengthening Afghanistan’s health system, facilitating visas for Afghan doctors and patients, providing medical equipment and vaccines, and expanding training and capacity-building programs for Afghan health professionals.
Among the pledged assistance are the donation of vaccines worth $5 million, a radiotherapy machine for cancer treatment valued at $3 million, cancer medicines worth $1 million, a CT scan machine worth $300,000, and the establishment of a thalassemia center valued at $500,000. The commitments also include investment in the health sector and the establishment of an institute and research center for traditional medicine in Kabul.
