Mawlawi Zabihullah Mujahid: America should engage with Afghans politically, diplomatically, and rationally

In an interview with Al-Arabiya TV, Mawlawi Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, responded to recent statements by the U.S. President, stressing that America should engage with Afghans through political, diplomatic, and rational channels.

He emphasized that Afghans will not accept the presence of foreign forces on their soil and warned that harmful actions inevitably provoke adverse consequences.

“During America’s 20-year occupation, Afghanistan endured continuous suffering,” Mr. Mujahid said. “The occupation has now ended. Afghanistan is no longer a land for foreign control—it deserves political engagement and rational interaction so its people can stand on their own feet.”

On Afghanistan’s foreign relations, he highlighted a balanced approach: “Afghanistan maintains relations with China based on a neutral, balanced foreign policy and seeks good relations with the U.S. We will never allow our territory to become a battleground for rival powers.”

Regarding Bagram Airbase, Mr. Mujahid reaffirmed, “Bagram is part of Afghanistan and will not be handed over to anyone. Afghanistan is committed to a neutral foreign policy, aims for balanced relations with all major powers, and will not compromise its sovereignty for external competition.”

He added that recent U.S. remarks about Bagram are misguided, underscoring that the Islamic Emirate deals independently with its territory and that Afghanistan is fully sovereign.
