Minister of Public Health met with Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean of the (WHO)

The Minister of Public Health of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the distinguished Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, convened a high-level meeting in his office, during which he hosted Dr. Hanan Hassan Al-Balkhi, the Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean of the World Health Organization (WHO); the Regional Head of UNICEF; a representative from the Bill Gates Foundation and a delegation of senior officials from these esteemed organizations.

The discussions, which revolved around pivotal strategies for enhancing healthcare services in Afghanistan, prioritized the reinforcement of polio vaccination initiatives and eradication efforts, the establishment of strategically located health centers along key transportation corridors, and the implementation of comprehensive measures to address malnutrition, including its prevention, treatment, and detailed surveys.

Additionally, controlling the spread of infectious diseases and mobilizing substantial international support to fortify the nation’s healthcare system were key points of deliberation.

Honorable Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali underscored the indispensable role of synchronized collaboration with WHO, UNICEF, and the Bill Gates Foundation in fortifying Afghanistan’s healthcare infrastructure.

He emphasized the necessity of aligning their efforts with the Ministry of Public Health’s strategic priorities and urgent needs, thereby ensuring that effective, high-quality healthcare services reach the Afghan population.

The representatives of these international entities, having presented an in-depth assessment of Afghanistan’s healthcare landscape, reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to fostering regional partnerships and mobilizing significant resources.

They pledged sustained support, not only to enhance the country’s healthcare system but also to ensure the successful implementation of these critical initiatives.
