Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, held a video conference with the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, on August 8.

During the meeting, they discussed various bilateral political, economic, and trade collaborations, including the implementation of the TAPI project within Afghanistan, the expansion of the railway station at the Torghundi port, and the facilitation of transit and transport.

Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Baradar Akhund emphasized that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan share strong political and economic relations, and both sides should strive to further enhance these relations. He highlighted the mutual interests of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, stating that the current environment is favorable for achieving these goals. According to Deputy PM Mullah Baradar Akhund, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan pursues an economy-focused foreign policy with a primary emphasis on regional connectivity, requiring cooperation from the region, particularly Turkmenistan, to achieve this aim.

Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister, referring to the friendly relations between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, stated that his country is ready to commence work on the TAPI project within Afghanistan in the near future to expand their political and economic ties. He also mentioned Turkmenistan’s plans to invest in Afghanistan’s electricity, and railway sectors.

Deputy PM Mullah Baradar Akhund reiterated that both countries would continue to work together on various shared issues to maximize the opportunities for mutual benefit.

In conclusion, the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan extended an invitation to Deputy PM Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund to visit Turkmenistan at a convenient time.
