Mullah Nooruddin Turabi, Director of the National Disaster Preparedness Agency, held meeting this morning with Nimatullah Karimi, head of the Turkish Red Crescent in Afghanistan, to discuss incident management and collaborative efforts.
During the meeting, Mr. Turabi emphasized the importance of public awareness in mitigating accident risks and highlighted the role of preventive measures, such as retaining walls, in controlling floods.
He noted that prevention is less costly and more effective than treatment and expressed a commitment to enhancing efforts in this area, while also seeking support from the Turkish Red Crescent.
Karimi responded by underscoring the significance of having professional public awareness teams and rescue units to minimize personal and financial losses. He mentioned a joint project with Hong Kong to install a sensor system along riverbanks that will provide early warnings about potential floods and rising water levels.
Additionally, Karimi assured that Turkey is prepared to assist the National Disaster Preparedness Agency with tents and hot meals during emergencies. He promised that any aid provided by Turkey will be distributed to beneficiaries through the National Disaster Preparedness Agency.
