Mass pro-Palestinian demonstrations took place across Australia after the declaration of famine in Gaza, drawing some of the largest crowds yet seen in the country.
In Brisbane, organizers reported a historic turnout of at least 50,000 people — the city’s largest pro-Palestine rally to date — while Queensland police estimated the crowd at around 10,000. In Melbourne, organizers claimed 100,000 participants, though police put the figure closer to 10,000. Sydney also witnessed massive demonstrations, with organizers citing 100,000 attendees, while New South Wales police had yet to release an official estimate by Sunday afternoon.
Remah Naji, spokesperson for Justice for Palestine Magan-djin, told the Brisbane rally that the protest marked “the largest pro-Palestine rally this city has ever seen.”
The demonstrations highlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and underscored growing solidarity with Palestine across Australia.
