Amid ongoing tensions between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Kyiv has tentatively agreed to a U.S.-brokered 30-day unconditional ceasefire, contingent on Moscow halting its attacks in eastern Ukraine.
However, Russian President Vladimir Putin has not accepted the truce, instead setting conditions that exceed those outlined in the U.S. agreement with Ukraine.
The ceasefire proposal from Trump’s administration comes as Russian forces gain momentum on multiple fronts in Ukraine.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke on Saturday to “discuss next steps,” according to State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce.
