World Bank is resuming Casa 1000 project in Afghanistan after a two-year delay

The World Bank, in collaboration with the Afghanistan Islamic Emirate and Electricity Company, along with regional cooperation, is restarting the Casa 1000 project for electricity transmission from Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan through Afghanistan. A joint meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, on March 7th and 8th, involving representatives from the World Bank, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Pakistan, demonstrated full readiness to resume this significant energy trade project. The Casa 1000 project facilities in Afghanistan, spanning 580 km from Shir Khan Bandar in Kunduz to Torkham in Nangarhar, are set to be completed by the end of 1404 after a two-year delay. The project, supported by the World Bank, recommenced in July 1403 following requests from regional countries and assurances from Afghanistan.
