According to Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Security Council’s decision not to adopt the draft resolution calling for Palestine to be admitted as a full member of the UN undermines regional peace.
The aforementioned ministry has apologized for this and described today as unfortunate and depressing for the region’s attempts to promote justice and peace.
In a news release, the Ministry stated: “The inability of the Security Council to approve this draft shows that this Council has failed to fulfill its role and responsibility in strengthening international security and peace, especially in the war-torn Gaza.
Furthermore, Qatar requested that the world community take immediate action to avert the prospect of conflict in the Middle East.
Following the US veto of the draft resolution on Palestine’s full membership in the UN, Qatar reacted.
Despite widespread support from countries and 12 votes in favor and 2 against, the document was not approved by the US before being sent to the Security Council for a vote.
