On a professional visit, Sergey Shoygu, the secretary of the Russian Security Council, arrived in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on Monday.
State news agency TASS said that Shoygu, the former military minister of Moscow, will meet with his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Ahmadian, citing the office of the Russian Security Council.
The announcement claimed that Shoygu will later be met by the recently elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and that he will also meet with Iran’s Chief of Staff, Muhammad Bagheri.
The statement went on to say that a wide variety of topics affecting bilateral cooperation will be discussed during the Tehran negotiations.
It further stated that several facets of regional and international security would be covered.
Amid mounting tensions with the US, Iran and Russia, two strong regional allies, have strengthened their bilateral ties recently.
