KABUL — Minister of Economy Qari Din Mohammad Hanif met with Japan’s Deputy Ambassador in Kabul, Mai Kyo Izawa, to discuss the stalled New Kabul City drinking water project.
The Ministry of Economy said Mr. Qari Din Mohammad Hanif called for the project’s resumption, while the Deputy Ambassador offered condolences to the families of recent earthquake victims in eastern Afghanistan and reaffirmed Japan’s emergency assistance. He also pledged to raise the issue of resuming the project with relevant Japanese institutions.
The $24 million project, funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and implemented by UNOPS, was launched in 2020 but has been suspended for the past four years.
