Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday called on world leaders at the UN General Assembly to take a firm stand in support of the Palestinian people.
“I sincerely appeal to all heads of state and government: today is the day to stand with the oppressed Palestinians in the name of humanity. While your people react against the barbarism in Gaza, have the courage to follow through,” Erdogan said.
Speaking “on behalf of the Palestinian people, whose voices are being silenced,” Erdogan thanked countries that have recognized Palestine and urged those that have not to “act without delay.”
He stressed that Israel has martyred one child every hour in Gaza over the past 23 months, adding: “These are not numbers, but innocent lives.” Erdogan also noted that 2.5 million Gazans, confined to just 365 square kilometers, are being displaced daily.
