Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara is set to make an official visit to Washington later this month, U.S. Special Envoy Tom Barak announced at a press conference in Bahrain.
Barak stated that the United States hopes Syria will join the international coalition to combat the ISIS terrorist organization.
According to media reports, President al-Shara is scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump at the White House on November 10. Following this visit, the fifth round of direct talks between Israel and Syria—mediated by the United States—is expected to take place.
The reports add that Washington’s primary objective is to secure a bilateral security agreement between Israel and Syria by the end of this year.
