In the presence of Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Al-Haj Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, and Mirwais Azizi, five contracts for the commencement of practical work on power generation projects comprising 330 megawatts of solar power and 515 megawatts of coal-fired thermal power were signed between the Chief Executive Officer of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, Al-Haj Mullah Abdul Haq Hamkar, and Director of Azizi Energy, Engineer Abdullah Sajid.
The contract-signing ceremony was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Al-Haj Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund; Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Al-Haj Mullah Hidayatullah Badri; Minister of Water and Energy, Mullah Mohammad Younis Akhundzada; Minister of Finance, Mullah Nasir Akhund; Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Mawlawi Ataullah Omari; representatives of General Directorate of State-Owned Corporations; and numerous officials.
During the ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, Al-Haj Mullah Abdul Haq Hamkar, praised Azizi Energy Company for this major investment in power generation and assured all investors of full cooperation.
Minister of Water and Energy, Mullah Mohammad Younis Akhundzada, emphasized the importance of electricity in country’s economic development and industrial self-reliance, and called on investors to invest in power generation within the framework of complete security stability and transparent governance with streamlined administrative processes.
The Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Mullah Hidayatullah Badri, in addition to coal resources, also highlighted the availability of facilities for power generation from gas related to TAPI project, stating that upon completion of this project, extensive facilities and opportunities would be created for investors in Herat.
In his remarks, the President of Azizi Group, Mr. Mirwais Azizi, stated that since electricity energy is the primary and fundamental element for country’s economic and industrial development, the company invested in power generation, adding that in the future it will also invest in other essential sectors.
As a result of the support and comprehensive facilitation provided by Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat to investors, over the past nearly four years dozens of investors have made investments in power generation, establishment of infrastructure, and expansion of electricity grids. With the completion of the projects currently underway, country’s electricity needs will be met to a large extent.
