200 Recovering Drug Addicts Discharged from Jangalak Hospital Following Successful Treatment

The Directorate of the National Drug Addiction Treatment Program under Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health has formally discharged 200 individuals from Jangalak Hospital after they successfully completed a full course of treatment for substance abuse.

An official ceremony was convened to mark the occasion, attended by Deputy Minister for Health Service Delivery, Mawlawi Abdul Wali Haqqani, along with senior ministry officials, representatives from various governmental bodies, and members of the media.

In his keynote address, Deputy Minister Haqqani extended his heartfelt congratulations to the rehabilitated individuals and urged them to abstain from returning to the misuse of narcotics.

He emphasized that addiction is not solely a physical illness, but rather a complex psychological disorder. He called for compassionate reintegration of these individuals into society, urging community members to treat them with dignity and kindness.

He also stressed the need for continued access to effective treatment, coupled with psychosocial support and hope, to prevent them from becoming a burden on their families or society.

Speaking at the event, Al-Hafiz Inamullah Ammar, Director of the National Drug Addiction Treatment Program, reaffirmed the program’s responsibility to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. He highlighted key achievements and ongoing services offered under the national program.

“We are committed to treating patients with compassion, professionalism, and medical expertise so they can return to society as healthy and productive citizens,” he said.

Concluding the program, Mawlawi Mohammad Qasim Haqqani, Director of Preaching and Guidance at the Ministry of Public Health, delivered a spiritual message, affirming that drug addiction is strictly forbidden (haram) in Islam.

He urged the recovered individuals to never relapse into substance abuse, and to lead lives in accordance with Islamic principles and personal well-being.
