Deputy Foreign Minister Briefs Diplomats on Afghanistan–Pakistan Talks in Istanbul

In a meeting with embassy officials in Kabul, Dr. Mohammad Naeem, Deputy Minister of Finance and Administration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, briefed them on the recent negotiations between Afghanistan and Pakistan held in Istanbul, as well as the position of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Dr. Naeem stated that the main challenge in the Istanbul talks was the Pakistani side’s presentation of unrealistic and impractical demands during the negotiations.

He emphasized that blaming Afghanistan for all of Pakistan’s security problems indicates that certain circles within the Pakistani military are not genuinely seeking a negotiated resolution to the issues between the two countries.

Dr. Naeem further noted that the irresponsible and uncooperative attitude of the Pakistani delegation led to the failure of the discussions, despite the goodwill of the Islamic Emirate and the tireless efforts of the mediators. According to Dr. Naeem, the Islamic Emirate remains in close contact with the mediating countries and stands ready to resume diplomatic engagement whenever the Pakistani side demonstrates goodwill, rationality, and realism in its approach
