Iran’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and Ambassador to Kabul, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, along with his delegation, met with Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi
During the meeting, they discussed various topics including the security of the Afghanistan-Iran border, bilateral economic developments, expansion of diplomatic relations, facilitation of consular services for Afghan refugees in Iran, and cooperation in legal and judicial matters.
Mr. Muttaqi expressed his condolences to the Iranian delegation regarding the incident in Kerman and thanked Iran for their warm welcome and hospitality during his recent visit. He also informed the Iranian delegation that the Supreme Court of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan will officially invite a competent judicial and legal delegation from Iran to Kabul to address the legal and judicial problems of Afghan refugees in Iran.
Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, discussed the progress in bilateral cooperation and highlighted Iran’s preparations for regional connectivity, including the operation of Chah Bahar Port and the China-Afghanistan and Iran Corridor. Mr. Qomi also expressed his view that, considering the current positive situation in Afghanistan, the appointment of a special representative for Afghanistan by the United Nations is inappropriate and should instead be the responsibility of the Afghan government.
Both sides agreed to call for a joint meeting of special representatives from regional countries for Afghanistan in Kabul.
