Amir Khan Muttaqi has underscored the role of sports diplomacy as a key avenue for strengthening Afghanistan’s ties with the international community.
Speaking at a meeting in Kabul with representatives from countries participating in a traditional wrestling festival, the foreign minister highlighted the region’s deep-rooted cultural connections and described them as a foundation for broader cooperation. He said Afghanistan aims to build on these historic links by expanding engagement through sporting exchanges.
Mr. Muttaqi also pointed to ongoing efforts to facilitate travel and participation for athletes, including improvements in visa processes and support services. He noted that the country’s sports sector has seen notable progress in recent years.
Representatives from participating nations praised Afghanistan’s organization and hospitality during the event, expressing appreciation for the management of the competitions and reaffirming their commitment to continued cooperation in future sporting initiatives.
