A high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund on Saturday approved in principle a plan to develop the Gulbahar residential and commercial town.
The meeting, held at the Marmarin Palace, reviewed the proposal with relevant departments, highlighting its urban development and economic significance. A committee led by the deputy prime minister has been appointed to carry out technical, economic, social, and environmental studies.
The committee has been tasked with submitting a detailed report within three months.
Officials said the private sector has expressed interest in investing around $8 billion in the project, which will be developed on 11,000 acres of land. The project is expected to provide housing for tens of thousands of people and generate thousands of jobs.
