Afghanistan’s Forest Coverage Rises by 35 Percent Over the Past One and a Half Decades

The National Statistic and Information Authority (NSIA) announced that it has assessed the country’s forest coverage through the use of remote sensing technology and satellite imagery.

According to the authority, forest coverage has expanded by 427,000 hectares compared to the year 1390 of the solar calendar, reflecting a 35 percent increase.

The highest increases in forest coverage have been recorded in the provinces of Paktia, Khost, Badakhshan, Baghlan, Badghis, Nangarhar, Kunar, Herat, and Laghman.
