Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, and Tajikistan’s Foreign Minister, Sirajuddin Mehruddin, held a telephone conversation to discuss political relations, economic cooperation, border security, and regional initiatives.
The Afghan Foreign Ministry stated that Afghanistan and Tajikistan have recently fostered an atmosphere of trust for political, economic, and security collaboration, though some circles are attempting to undermine this positive trend.
Mawlawi Muttaqi condemned recent security incidents in Tajikistan, including the killing of Chinese citizens, calling them regrettable. He emphasized the importance of joint cooperation to ensure regional stability and affirmed that the Islamic Emirate is fully prepared to strengthen border security, conduct joint investigations, and coordinate actions against malicious elements, which he described as a pressing need.
Meanwhile, the Tajik Foreign Minister expressed support for enhanced border coordination, stressing that Tajikistan favors constructive engagement with the Afghan government and rejects biased groups attempting to weaken bilateral relations.
Both sides agreed to maintain regular contact between border forces and hold technical meetings of joint security cooperation committees to build greater mutual trust and stability in the region, the Afghan Foreign Ministry added.
