Supreme Commission for Refugee Affairs: Full Capacity Available for Reception and Settlement of Returnees

The Supreme Commission for Addressing Refugee Issues stated in a press release that Afghanistan has full capacity for the reception and settlement of Afghan returnees, and that they should not be left waiting on the other side of the hypothetical line.

In a statement issued by Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, Deputy Spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate, it was assured that regardless of the number of Afghan returnees arriving daily, the authorities are able to effectively manage and provide services to them.

The commission further stated that returning migrants entering the country through the Torkham crossing are, under various pretexts, being held for days on the Pakistani side, despite the presence of women, children, and elderly individuals among them, leaving them stranded along the road in difficult conditions.

The commission has called on international organizations and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to engage with the Pakistani authorities to ensure that no obstacles are created for Afghans, that they are not subjected to mistreatment, and that they are allowed to return without delay.
