U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the suspension of attacks against Iran for a period of two weeks.
In a statement, Trump said the decision was made following talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir.
According to the U.S. president, the pause in attacks is conditional on Iran’s “full, immediate, and secure” reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and has been described as a bilateral ceasefire.
Trump also claimed that U.S. military objectives had been achieved and that negotiations toward a lasting peace agreement with Iran had reached an advanced stage. He added that a 10-point proposal presented by Iran could serve as the basis for a final deal.
The U.S. president emphasized that the two-week period would provide an opportunity to finalize an agreement and move toward peace in the Middle East.
