More than 2,100 children have been killed or injured since the recent escalation of fighting in the Middle East, a senior UNICEF official said.
Ted Chaiban, Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), made the announcement on Monday, April 23, during a briefing at UN headquarters in New York.
He said that in the 23 days since the conflict intensified, children across the region have been paying a heavy price. On average, about 87 children have been killed or injured each day since the fighting began.
Chaiban warned that continued violence — and the risk of a broader, prolonged conflict — could have catastrophic consequences for millions more people
