Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund traveled to Kunar Province to visit the earthquake-affected people and the earthquake-stricken areas

The Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, today,September 12, 2025, traveled to Kunar Province to visit the earthquake-affected people and the earthquake-stricken areas.

In this visit, the Deputy PM for Economic Affairs was accompanied by the governors of Nangarhar and Kunar, the General Director of the Red Crescent, Sheikh Shahabuddin Delawar, and the Director for Disaster Management, Mullah Nooruddin Torabi.

During his meeting with the earthquake-affected people, the Deputy PM expressed his deep sorrow over this major tragedy, prayed for the souls of the martyrs, and wished the injured a swift recovery.

Deputy PM Mullah Baradar Akhund, on behalf of the Islamic Emirate, expressed solidarity in this great grief and stated that in the past four years, this is the third time that severe earthquakes have caused heavy human and financial losses to the citizens.

The Deputy PM added that despite limited resources, the Islamic Emirate has been able to provide timely assistance to those affected. He assured the earthquake victims in Kunar that the Islamic Emirate stands by their side.

According to him, directives have been issued to all Emirate officials to collect aid and distribute it transparently to the deserving victims.

The Deputy PM called upon the country’s traders, investors, and charitable foundations to continue their assistance to the earthquake-affected people of Kunar.

Furthermore, the Deputy PM, while referring to the necessary plans currently underway for the reconstruction of the affected areas, stated that efforts are being made to provide resources for rebuilding the destroyed houses and to adopt comprehensive measures to reduce the scale of damage from natural disasters in the future.

Alongside expressing gratitude to all countries, citizens, national businessmen, and charitable organizations that assisted the earthquake-affected people of Kunar, the Deputy PM called on the international community to lift the sanctions imposed on Afghanistan in these difficult conditions, so that the obstacles to delivering aid to affected Afghans and addressing economic challenges may be removed.

In conclusion, the Deputy PM mentioned his official trip to the northern provinces of the country and said that had he not been on that journey, he would have joined the afflicted citizens on the very first day of the earthquake to share in their grief.
