The Minister of Refugees and Repatriation, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, held a meeting with Indrika Ratwatte, Deputy Special Representative for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA); Arafat Jamal, the UNHCR Representative in Afghanistan; and Mihyung Park, Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Afghanistan.
During the meeting, the UNAMA Deputy Head reported that over one million Afghan refugees have returned from Pakistan and Iran during the current solar year, with numbers continuing to increase.
He further stated that joint efforts have been initiated in coordination with the Islamic Emirate authorities to address the challenges faced by refugees in Islam Qala, including the mobilization of financial resources.
Mr. Arafat Jamal also confirmed that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is scheduled to visit Kabul in the near future.
Additionally, Mr. Jamal indicated that donor assistance has been requested to address the issues faced by Afghan refugees, with expectations of prompt support.
Mawlawi Abdul Kabir added that the Islamic Emirate has dispatched the necessary supplies and equipment to Islam Qala, and precautionary technical teams are currently on the way to reach the province.
He emphasized the Islamic Emirate’s readiness to cooperate fully with United Nations agencies and underscored the importance of trilateral consultations with Iran regarding refugee matters.
