First Round of Putin-Trump Talks on Ukraine Concludes in Alaska

The Kremlin announced Saturday that the first round of negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump has concluded in Alaska.

The talks, held in Anchorage, lasted more than three hours and included two representatives from each side. Russia was represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Presidential Aide for International Affairs Yury Ushakov, while U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff joined President Trump.

This meeting marks the first direct communication between the Russian and American leaders in more than four years, since Putin’s last encounter with Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden, in Geneva in 2021.

For President Putin, the visit to the United States is his first in a decade, the last being his 2015 trip to New York to attend the UN General Assembly.
