A high-level meeting aimed at increasing trade between Afghanistan and Iran, with a goal of reaching $10 billion, was held in Kabul between Nooruddin Azizi, Afghanistan’s Minister of Industry and Trade, and Sayed Mohammad Atabak, Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mines, and Trade.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade stated that the discussions focused on signing trade, transit, and investment agreements, implementing preferential tariffs to remove existing barriers, and resolving issues at the Milk, Dogharoon, Chabahar, and Bandar Abbas ports.
The meeting also put forward proposals to hold Afghan-Iranian trade exhibitions, purchase Afghan cotton, provide 24-hour electricity to Sheikh Abu Nasr Farahi Port, and regulate container ship capacities at Chabahar Port.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Iranian side committed to addressing existing challenges and actively pursuing initiatives to help bring bilateral trade between the two countries to $10 billion.
