Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi Meets with his Chinese counterpart: Afghanistan-China Trade Set to Grow

Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Mawlawi Muttaqi described Afghanistan-China relations as steadily developing, noting that trade between the two countries currently reaches $1 billion annually and is expected to grow significantly in the near future.

Mr. Muttaqi presented practical proposals to enhance cooperation in areas including the economy, transportation, banking, and achieving a balanced trade relationship between Afghanistan and China.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed his country’s interest in Afghanistan officially joining the Belt and Road Initiative.

He highlighted China’s eagerness to collaborate with Afghanistan in feasibility studies and mining projects, stating that mining operations are planned to commence this year.

Additionally, Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s commitment to providing continued political and economic support to Afghanistan, including efforts to facilitate the export of Afghan agricultural products and other goods.
